Black Friars Distllery (The home of Plymouth Gin) was formerly a Dominican Monastery dating back to c1431, and in c1620 provided the final lodgings for the Pilgrim fathers before thay sailed to the New World on the Mayflower. In the early 1800's Plymouth Gin became the gin of the Royal Navy, and there is documentation from c1896 stating Plymouth Gin as being used in the original Dry Martini recipe. It was also the favorite gin of Roosevelt, Churchill and Hitchcock.
